This was the first song we received for the album. I heard it and fell in love with it. We (Steve Ferrera and I) decided that we would use this song as the template for every other song that came to us for this album.
Terry Lewis and Jimmy Jam are amazing producers. We all know that! They know what they want the song to sound like and the tailor it to suit the singer they're working with. Terry really wanted every emotion he wrote into the song to be felt in the performance, so he pushed me and pushed me until he got the right "take." God knows, I was tired and frustrated but I loved this song so much – I knew I had to labor through it. In the end, I think it worked out. Thanks Terry and Jimmy and of course...Big Jim
